Sapphire Central is a small area in the countryside of Queensland, Australia. It's part of the Central Highlands Region. Inside this area, you'll find the town of Sapphire. This place is famous because many beautiful Sapphire gemstones are dug up here!

Where is Sapphire Central?
Sapphire Central is mostly a flat area, sitting about 230 meters (750 feet) above sea level. However, there are some interesting hills and ranges.
Mountains and Ranges
In the north-west part of Sapphire Central, you'll find Mount Bullock. This mountain is about 335 meters (1,099 feet) high.
Towards the south-west, there's a group of hills called The Three Sisters Range. These hills reach up to 370 meters (1,210 feet) high.

The town of Sapphire has a history connected to gemstone mining.
Early School Days
A school called Sapphire Provisional School first opened its doors in 1904. It later became Sapphire State School in 1909. However, the school closed down in 1939.
Changing Names
For a long time, Sapphire was one of three towns in a larger area called The Gemfields. The other towns were Anakie and Rubyvale.
But on April 17, 2020, the Queensland Government made a change. They decided to split The Gemfields into three new, smaller areas. These new areas were Sapphire Central, Anakie Siding, and Rubyvale. Each new area was named after one of the towns.

The number of people living in Sapphire Central has changed over the years.
In 2006, the town of Sapphire had about 550 residents. By 2016, this number grew slightly to 572 people. In 2021, the whole area of Sapphire Central had a population of 1,214 people.
