Sara Tomic's Tennis Journey
Starting Out in 2014
In 2014, Sara Tomic mostly played on the ITF Junior Circuit. This circuit is where young tennis players compete to improve their skills. She received special invitations, called wildcards, to play in some bigger tournaments. These included the Sydney International and the Australian Open.
Even though she lost in the first rounds of these big events, she did well in junior tournaments. She won two junior titles in Kawana and Lautoka, Fiji. Sara also reached the finals in two other junior events. In doubles, she teamed up with Xu Shilin and won two titles. One of these was the important Grade-A Osaka Mayor's Cup.
Moving to Professional Play in 2015
Sara continued to receive wildcards in 2015. She played in the Sydney International and the Australian Open. At the Australian Open, she played in both the qualifying rounds and the main doubles event. In the junior Australian Open, she made it to the third round. She also reached the semifinals in junior doubles with Xu Shilin.
After these junior successes, Sara decided to focus on playing professionally. This means she started competing against adult players for prize money and rankings. She quickly found success, winning her first professional title in Sharm El Sheikh in July. This big win helped her ranking climb into the top 500 players in the world. Overall, Sara won three singles titles and two doubles titles on the professional ITF Circuit during her career.
