Early Life and Education
Sarada Charan was born in Bagbazar, Kolkata, on May 15, 1906. His family was well-known for making sweets.
From Science to Sweets
After finishing college at Vidyasagar College, Sarada Charan was very interested in science. In his early twenties, from 1926 to 1930, he worked as a scientist. He studied with the famous physicist and Nobel Prize winner, Sir C. V. Raman, at Rajabazar Science College.
However, his family had a successful sweet business. His father, Krishna Chandra Das, wanted Sarada Charan to join the family business. He did not want his son to work for anyone else. To bring Sarada Charan into the business, his father started a new shop in 1930. This shop was named after Krishna Chandra Das. Sarada Charan later changed the name to the well-known "K.C. Das".
Inventing Canned Rossogolla
At this new shop, Sarada Charan and his father worked together. In 1930, they created the first canned Rossogolla. This was also the first canned sweet ever made in India!
