Sarvestan (Persian: سروستان) is a city in Iran. It is located in the Fars province. Sarvestan is the main city of Sarvestan County and its Central District. It also helps manage the nearby Sarvestan Rural District. This city is about 80 kilometers (50 miles) southeast of Shiraz, which is the capital city of Fars province.
Sarvestan is known for growing many plants. These include wheat, pistachios, and olives. The yoghurt made in Sarvestan is also very famous.

How Many People Live Here?
In 2006, a count showed that 16,846 people lived in Sarvestan. They lived in about 4,094 homes. By 2011, the population grew to 19,116 people in 4,898 homes. The city became the capital of the new Sarvestan County around this time. The latest count in 2016 showed 18,187 people living in 5,592 homes.
A Look at Sarvestan's History
The history of Sarvestan goes back about 2,600 years. This was when the Achaemenids started the Persian Empire.
The Ancient Palace
There is an old building called the Sasanids' Palace (Kakhe Sasan) near the city. Experts believe it was built a long time ago, between 224 and 651 A.D. This was during the Sasanid dynasty. It might have been a palace for rulers or a special temple for the Zoroastrian religion. The palace was added to Iran's National Heritage list in 1956.

Sarvestan is the birthplace of Sheikh Yusef Sarvestani. He was a wise person who taught about good morals.
