Saskia Post (born January 1, 1961 – died March 16, 2020) was an actress. She was born in America but became an Australian citizen. Saskia was famous for her main role in the 1986 movie Dogs in Space. In this film, she acted alongside Michael Hutchence.
Saskia also appeared in the 1985 movie Bliss. This film won an AFI Award. Later, she acted in the 1991 movie Proof. Proof was chosen as "Best Film" at the 1991 AFI Awards.
Early Life and Education
Saskia Post was born in Martinez, California, USA, in 1961. Her family moved to Australia in 1975. During her time in high school, she studied acting and singing.
After finishing high school, Saskia spent a year in Sydney. There, she took many acting workshops and dance classes. She then started studying drama and arts at the University of New South Wales. However, she left after one year. In 1981, she continued her acting training at The Drama School.
Acting Career
Saskia Post got her first television role in 1982. She played a character named Julianna Sleven in a show called The Sullivans. Julianna was a Dutch refugee.
The Sullivans was an Australian drama TV series. It was about a normal family from Melbourne and how World War II affected their lives. Saskia moved to Melbourne to work on this show. She stayed with the series for twelve months before leaving in 1984.
In 1985, Saskia appeared in the movie Bliss. She played the daughter of a character named Honey Barbara. This movie won an AFI Award.
Saskia Post had a main role in the 1986 movie Dogs in Space. This film was directed by Richard Lowenstein.
Saskia also performed in many plays in Melbourne. Some of these plays include Endgrain, Train to Transcience, and Could I Have this Dance?. Other plays she acted in were In Angel Gear, Figures in Glass, Skin, and Vincent in Brixton.
Death
Saskia Post passed away on March 16, 2020. She was 59 years old. She died from a cardiac arrest at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
