Satish Prasad Singh (born January 1, 1936 – died November 2, 2020) was an important Indian politician. He served as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a very short time, just five days, in 1968.
About Satish Prasad Singh
Satish Prasad Singh belonged to the Koeri community. His daughter, Suchitra Sinha, married Nagmani. Nagmani's father, Jagdeo Prasad, was a well-known leader often called the "Lenin of Bihar."
Political Journey
Mr. Singh led a government that was a mix of different political groups, called a coalition government. His main party was the Soshit Samaj Dal, and it was supported by the Indian National Congress. He was the first Chief Minister of Bihar who came from the Other Backward Classes.
In 1980, Satish Prasad Singh joined the Indian National Congress party. He was elected to the 7th Lok Sabha, which is the lower house of the Parliament of India. He represented the Khagaria area of Bihar. Later, in September 2013, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, he left that party after protesting. He felt that the Kushwaha community was not given enough chances to run for election.
Family Life
Satish Prasad Singh came from a wealthy family. They owned more than 50 acres of land. He married Gyan Kala, who belonged to a different caste. At that time, it was very difficult for people from different castes to marry. They had to go against their parents' wishes to be together.
His Passing
Satish Prasad Singh passed away in Delhi on November 2, 2020. He died from problems caused by COVID-19. Sadly, his wife had also died from the same illness just five days before him.
