A Place for Training Soldiers

For a few years, from 1965 to 1973, Scheyville was home to a special training center. This center was called the Officer Training Unit, or OTU Scheyville. Its job was to train new officers for the Australian Army. These officers were needed because many young people were joining the army through a program called the national service scheme. This scheme meant that some young people had to serve in the military.

Scheyville National Park

In 1997, a large part of the land in Scheyville became the Scheyville National Park. This park is a special place where nature is protected. The area is named after a person called William Schey. He was a politician who represented areas like Redfern and Darlington in the late 1800s. The park is also listed on the New South Wales Heritage Register, which means it is an important historical place.
