Vineyard is a friendly suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 50 kilometres west of the busy Sydney central business district. This area is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. Vineyard is managed by two local councils: the City of Blacktown and the City of Hawkesbury. To its west, you'll find Eastern Creek, which flows into South Creek, a small river that eventually joins the Hawkesbury River.
A Look Back: History
Vineyard gets its name from the many vineyards that used to be in this area. Long ago, this suburb was part of Windsor's special wine-growing region.
The very first vineyard here was started by a man named John Paul Ouvrier. He came from France with his two sons around the 1830s. John Paul became an Australian citizen in 1860, changing his name from Jean Pierre Ouvrier.
Getting Around
Vineyard is located between two important roads. These are Richmond Road, which goes from Blacktown to Richmond, and Windsor Road, which connects Windsor to North Parramatta. Between 2006 and 2007, Windsor Road was made bigger, with four lanes to help traffic flow better.
You can also travel by train! Vineyard railway station is on the train line that runs between Blacktown and Richmond. Electric trains run regularly in both directions, making it easy for people to commute.
