Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island is an American animated mystery film that went straight to video. It was made by Warner Bros. Animation and released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. This movie is the thirty-third film in the direct-to-video series of Scooby-Doo adventures. It is also a direct follow-up to the 1998 animated movie Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. That first film was the start of the Scooby-Doo direct-to-video movies. Return to Zombie Island first showed at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2019. It was released digitally on September 3, 2019, and on DVD on October 1, 2019.

The Story
A few months after their last adventure, Fred is still sad about selling the Mystery Machine. Then, a TV show hosted by Elvira announces exciting news. Shaggy has won a trip to a beautiful island paradise! He can bring all his friends along.
Because of their past experiences, and a sheriff telling them to stop solving mysteries, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo make a promise. They tell the gang they will not solve any more mysteries on this trip. They will just relax and have fun.
Arriving at the Island
As the gang sails to the island, they notice something strange. The area looks more like a swamp than a sunny tropical place. The boat captain tells them that zombies live on the island. This reminds the gang of a long time ago. They had visited an island with zombies on it before.
Two people greet them when they get off the boat. They warn the gang to leave right away. A mysterious dark cat creature then slashes a palm tree. The tree almost falls on the car they are taking to the hotel. The gang keeps noticing odd things. But they remember their promise and try not to investigate too much. They are determined to relax.
However, the hotel is called "Moonstar Island Resort." This name sounds very similar to "Moonscar Island," where they met zombies before. The hotel itself also looks exactly like the old plantation house they stayed in.
Strange Discoveries
They meet the hotel manager, "Alan Smithee," and other workers. These people look a lot like the ones they met on Moonscar Island years ago. Later, Scooby and Shaggy are attacked by zombies. They hide in a kitchen cupboard. Inside, they accidentally press a button. This causes them to fall into a cave under the house. The cave looks like the one from Moonscar Island. It has statues of the cat creatures.
That night, zombies start attacking the hotel. Scooby and Shaggy finally tell the rest of the gang it's okay to solve mysteries again. The gang had been wanting to solve mysteries! After catching the zombies, they find out who they really are. The zombies are actually the other hotel workers.
Velma then realizes something important. She says the island is Moonscar Island! She figures out they were tricked into coming here to film a movie. Alan is actually a famous film director. The hotel employees are actors. Alan had lured the gang back with the contest Shaggy won. He wanted to make a movie similar to the gang's real zombie adventure. The gang agrees to keep making the film for fun. They also find an improved monster truck version of the Mystery Machine. Fred's stunt double is driving it.
The Real Mystery
Alan reveals he has Simone's pendant. He found it on the island. Several of the island's cats and three cat creatures attack the gang. They try to escape by ferry. But Alan burns the ferry in a wild moment. He says they must finish the movie first.
They get into the Mystery Machine. Fred drives away from the creatures, even jumping over a river. The cat creatures try to take Simone's pendant. This makes Velma think they are looking for the treasure of pirate Morgan Moonscar. They escape the creatures by hiding in the cupboard again.
In the cave, they find the dial that Simone and Lena used to trap the gang before. They trick the three cat creatures into the cave. It turns out the creatures are the ferry driver and the two people who greeted them off the boat. They were looking for Moonscar's treasure. However, the identity of the fourth cat creature, the dark one that slashed the tree, remains a mystery. This makes Alan think that one might be real.
Explanations and New Beginnings
Velma is very focused on finding a logical reason for what happened on Moonscar Island last time. She decides that the cat creatures were always fake. She thinks the zombies were just a trick caused by swamp gas. Fred and Daphne are not sure about this idea. They remember they had cut off a zombie's head last time, which proved it was real. But they let Velma have her moment of believing her theory.
When the police arrive to arrest the ferry captain and his friends, the sheriff asks why they are solving mysteries again. The gang makes a strong speech. They say that solving mysteries is what they are meant to do. This convinces the sheriff to let Mystery Inc. go back to solving mysteries once more!
In a short scene after the credits, Elvira talks about a movie called "Zombie Teenagers and the Island of Doom." It also shows a trailer and funny mistakes made during its filming.
