Scott Darlow's Life Story

Scott Darlow was born in Melbourne, Australia. His parents were part of the Salvation Army. When he was five, Scott moved to Hong Kong. He lived there for six years and went to Beacon Hill Primary School. After that, he came back to Melbourne for high school. He also lived in Perth, Western Australia, for a while. Scott finished high school in Melbourne.

After high school, Scott started studying to become a teacher at RMIT university. While studying, he also worked in bars and pubs. After finishing university, Scott taught music at three high schools and one primary school. He taught full-time for two and a half years. Then, he decided to leave teaching to focus on making music. He wanted to write songs, record them, and go on tour.

Scott's Music Journey

Scott Darlow started playing music when he was very young. He began playing the cornet at five years old. His parents were Salvation Army officers. So, his first musical experiences were watching the brass band at Hawthorn Salvation Army. He loved music from that moment. He wanted to play in the band just like the men he watched every Sunday.

He got a cornet at age five. By age seven, he was playing in a brass band. From there, he learned to play songs by the Beach Boys and Beatles. Scott kept playing the trumpet through high school. He also learned to play classical guitar. During this time, he played trumpet and saxophone in bands around Melbourne. Scott is good at playing many instruments. These include the trumpet, trombone, saxophone, clarinet, didgeridoo, piano, and guitar. He is also a singer.

When he was nineteen, Scott decided to take his guitar playing more seriously. He started writing his own songs. A Melbourne gospel artist named Paul Colman helped him. Scott then began recording his first album. It was called Be with You. Indie producer David Carr helped him make it. The album was released in January 2003. It came out under his band's name, The Darlow Show.

This album included a popular song called "Sorry." This song was about his Aboriginal heritage. It featured a vocal part from AFL footballer David Wirrpanda. In 2005, he released a live acoustic album. It was called Underground. This album was also released under The Darlow Show name.

In 2008, Scott Darlow released his third album. It was called The Whole Earth Sings. This time, it was released under his own name. Together, these albums sold more than 23,000 physical copies.

In January 2016, Scott released a new song. It was the first single from his fifth album. The song was "Solid Rock." This was a cover of a famous Goanna song from 1982. Scott asked Shane Howard, who wrote and first sang the song, to join him. They recorded it as a duet. "Solid Rock" was played on radio stations across Australia and New Zealand. It was the most-played rock song on Australian radio in February 2016. The music video for the song also became very popular. Radio station Triple M shared it on Facebook. It got over 200,000 views.

Scott released his second single from the album in May 2016. It was called "Down Like Flies." This song also got good radio play in Australia. The music video for it featured famous Australian actors. These included Matt Hetherington, Melissa Hetherington, and Jane Gazzo. Scott's son, Emmanuel, was also in the video.

In January 2018, Scott had more radio success. This was with a new version of an older song, "Sorry." This song talks about the history of white settlement in Australia. It also speaks about the mistreatment of Aboriginal people over the centuries.

In 2018, Scott Darlow worked with other Australian musicians. These included Sarah McLeod, Adam Brand, Jack Jones, and Todd Hunter. They re-recorded the Dragon song "Rain." All the money from this song went to the Buy-a-bale program. This program helps Australian farmers who are suffering from drought. He also visited many schools, including SMIC.
