Playing Professional Baseball
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks picked Scott Hairston in the third round of the 2001 MLB Draft. He started his career playing second base for part of his first year in 2004. After that, he mostly played as a backup player. In July 2007, the Diamondbacks traded him to the San Diego Padres.
First Time with the San Diego Padres
Scott had an amazing first game as a starter for the San Diego Padres on August 3, 2007. He hit two home runs in a row! The first one was a three-run home run that tied the game in the eighth inning. The second was a "walk-off" home run in the 10th inning, which means it won the game.
The very next day, in his first turn at bat, Scott hit another home run. This meant he had hit three home runs in three straight turns at bat. Only six other Padres players had ever done that before! Fans in San Diego loved Scott because he often hit important home runs that helped win games late in the game. He hit three walk-off home runs for the Padres. He was especially good when playing against the San Francisco Giants.
In the 2007 Wild Card tie-breaker game, Scott hit a home run in the 13th inning to break a tie against the Colorado Rockies. Even though the Rockies won the game later, it was a memorable hit.
Scott also played for the Mexican team in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. His mother was born in Mexico, which allowed him to play for their national team. His brother Jerry also played on the team.

On October 3, 2012, Scott hit his 20th home run of the season. This was the most home runs he had ever hit in one year.
Chicago Cubs
