Racing Career
Scott Steckly's journey in professional racing began long before his NASCAR championships. He started in a Canadian racing league called the CASCAR Super Series.
Early Years in CASCAR
In 2000, Steckly started driving the No. 22 car for his own team in the CASCAR Super Series. He raced in this series for six years, until NASCAR bought CASCAR in 2006. This purchase led to the creation of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in 2007.
During his time in CASCAR, Steckly had one win and finished in the top ten 37 times. His best season was in 2006, where he finished 6th in the overall championship.
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Success
When the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series began, Steckly was ready to compete. He won his first race in the series in 2007 at Kawartha Speedway. The next year, 2008, was a huge success. He won four races and became the Series Champion for the first time.
Winning the championship allowed him to race in the Toyota All-Star Showdown in the United States. Unfortunately, he was involved in a crash early in the race. That same year, he also made his debut in the American Nationwide Series at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Championships and Challenges
Steckly continued to be a top driver. In 2009, he won two races but also had a scary crash in Montreal. His car was hit, flipped over, and landed on its roof. Luckily, he was not injured.
In 2011, he had a fantastic season, winning three races on his way to his second championship. After a strong 2012 season, he came back to win his third championship in 2013. He won this title by just two points over his rival, D. J. Kennington.
Steckly's final full-time season was in 2015, and he went out on top. He won his fourth and final NASCAR Canadian Tire Series championship that year.
A Brief Return to Racing
Even after retiring from full-time driving, Steckly couldn't stay away from the track. In 2019, one of his team's drivers, Alex Tagliani, had to miss a race because of a health issue. Steckly stepped in to drive the No. 18 car. It was his first race in four years, and he finished in 11th place.
