Sea Cliff, also sometimes called Seacliff, is a small, special community in Ventura County, California, United States. It's an unincorporated community, which means it's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's managed by the county.
This group of homes is located right along the coast. It's near two big roads: U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway. Sea Cliff is about 9 miles northwest of the city of Ventura.
What is Sea Cliff?
Sea Cliff is known as the Seacliff Beach Colony. It's a gated community, which means there's a fence or wall around it and usually a gate to control who comes in and out. This community has 49 homes. It covers about 11 acres of shoreline.
A Look at Its History
Something important happened in Sea Cliff in 1991. A train went off its tracks on the rail line that runs between Los Angeles and San Francisco. This accident caused a chemical spill in the area. Because of this, everyone living in the community had to leave their homes for a whole week to stay safe.
For a long time, the people who lived in Sea Cliff didn't own the land their homes were on. They were leasing it, which is like renting for a very long time, from a company called Seacliff Land LLC. In 2005, the homeowners made an agreement to buy the property. This meant they finally became the full owners of both their homes and the land underneath them.
