Sean Bergenheim (born February 8, 1984) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player. He played as a left wing in the National Hockey League (NHL). His NHL teams included the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Minnesota Wild.

Sean Bergenheim's Hockey Journey
Early Career and NHL Start
Sean Bergenheim began his professional hockey career in Finland. He played for Jokerit in the top Finnish league, called the SM-liiga, for three seasons. In 2002, his team won the Finnish championship.
The New York Islanders picked Sean in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was their first choice, picked 22nd overall. In 2003, he signed a contract with the Islanders. He played 18 games in his first NHL season, 2003–04. Sean scored his very first NHL goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After that, he played some games back in Finland and then in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Playing for the Islanders and Beyond
Sean spent most of the 2005–06 season in the AHL. He then returned to the Islanders. After some time, he played for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in Russia and Frölunda HC in Sweden. In Sweden, he played very well with his teammates.
In 2007, Sean signed another contract with the Islanders. The 2007–08 season was his first full year in the NHL. He scored 10 goals in 78 games that season. In 2008, he signed a two-year contract extension with the Islanders.
During the 2008–09 season, Sean had a great moment. He scored his first career NHL hat-trick against the New Jersey Devils. A hat-trick means scoring three goals in one game! He finished that season with a career-high 15 goals in 59 games.
Moving to Other NHL Teams
After the 2009–10 season, Sean left the Islanders. He signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2010. In his first time playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs, he scored 9 goals in 16 games. This helped the Lightning win against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals. They eventually lost to the Boston Bruins in a close seven-game series.
In 2011, Sean signed a four-year contract with the Florida Panthers. He played for the Panthers until 2015. He was then traded to the Minnesota Wild.
Later Career and Retirement
After his contract ended, Sean returned to Europe in 2015. He signed with SC Bern in Switzerland. He won the Swiss championship with Bern in 2016. However, he missed some games due to a concussion.
In 2016, he returned to Sweden to play for Frölunda HC again. He had played for them earlier in his career. In February 2018, Sean Bergenheim announced that he was retiring from professional hockey.

Sean Bergenheim also played for the Finnish national team. He represented Finland in many international tournaments. He won several medals for his country.
He earned one bronze medal at the IIHF World U18 Championships. He also won three bronze medals at the IIHF World Junior Championships. For the senior team, he won a silver medal in the 2007 IIHF World Championships. He also won two bronze medals in the 2006 and 2008 World Championships.
