Early Life and Acting Start
Sean Biggerstaff was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in a place called Maryhill with his parents. He went to Parkview Primary School and joined a local acting group, the Maryhill Youth Theatre, when he was seven years old. This is where he began to learn about acting.
Sean's Acting Journey
Sean got his first professional acting job when he was ten. He played the son of MacDuff in a play called Macbeth at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow. After that, he joined the Scottish Youth Theatre and stayed with them for six years, learning more about acting.
In 1996, when Sean was 13, he got his first big TV role. He played Young Darren in the BBC show The Crow Road. A year later, at 14, he was chosen by Alan Rickman (who later played Snape in Harry Potter) for his movie The Winter Guest. Sean played a mischievous schoolboy named Tom. Sean later shared that Alan Rickman was looking for two boys for his film, and he was one of the lucky ones.
Alan Rickman was so impressed with Sean that he suggested him to a big acting agency in London. Soon after, the auditions for the Harry Potter movies began. During his audition, the directors thought Sean would be perfect for the part of Oliver Wood, the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. He played Oliver in the first two Harry Potter films and returned for a short appearance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
After the first two Harry Potter movies, Sean continued acting in many different projects. He played Henry, Duke of Gloucester in the TV mini-series Charles II: The Power and The Passion in 2004. He also acted in a stage play called The Girl With Red Hair.
In 2007, Sean played Jeremy Wolfenden in the BBC 4 TV film Consenting Adults. For this role, he won the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor – Television, which is a big achievement! He also appeared in the film Hippie Hippie Shake and later in Whisky Galore! (2016), which also starred Eddie Izzard.
In 2016, Sean played the main character in a play called Right Now, which was very popular. In 2017, it was announced that he would be in an audio series called Jenny: The Doctor's Daughter, playing a character named Noah.
