Sean Burroughs' Early Life and Baseball Start

Sean Burroughs was born in Atlanta, Georgia. His father, Jeff Burroughs, was also a professional baseball player. Sean grew up in Long Beach, California. He became a star pitcher in the Little League World Series.

Little League World Series Success

In 1992, Sean's team won the 1992 Little League World Series. Their opponents were disqualified, which led to his team's victory. The next year, in the 1993 Little League World Series, Sean pitched two no-hitter games in a row. His team won that championship too.

Acting and High School Years

Besides baseball, Sean also worked as an extra in Hollywood. He appeared in shows like Saved by the Bell and movies like Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He went to Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach. After high school, he planned to play college baseball at the University of Southern California.

Sean Burroughs' Professional Baseball Career

Playing for the San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres chose Sean Burroughs in the first round of the 1998 MLB draft. He was the ninth player picked overall. Sean decided to sign with the Padres instead of going to college.

He played in Minor League Baseball for several teams. These included the Fort Wayne Wizards and Mobile BayBears. In 2000, Sean played in the All-Star Futures Game. He was even named the game's most valuable player. That same year, he won a gold medal in baseball at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Sean joined the Padres' main team in 2002. He split his time between the Padres and their minor league team. In 2003, he became the Padres' full-time third baseman. He batted .286 with seven home runs that season. The Padres had hoped he would hit more home runs. Because he didn't become a power hitter, they sent him back to the minor leagues in 2005.

Time with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays

After the 2005 season, the Padres traded Sean to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He played only eight games for the Devil Rays. He then went to their Triple-A team, the Durham Bulls. The Rays released him in June 2006.

Brief Stop with the Seattle Mariners

In December 2006, Sean signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. He played only four games for their Triple-A team. Then, he decided to step away from baseball. He said he had lost his passion for the game. He did not play baseball again until 2010.

Return to MLB with the Arizona Diamondbacks

On November 22, 2010, Sean signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After four years away from Major League Baseball, he returned to the big leagues on May 18, 2011. He batted .261 for Arizona.

He was later sent back to the minor leagues. But he returned to the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on July 1, 2011. Sean played in 20 games as the Diamondbacks won their division. He became a free agent after the season.

Playing for the Minnesota Twins

During the 2011–12 offseason, Sean played in the Venezuelan Winter League. A coach there recommended him to the Minnesota Twins. The Twins signed him to a minor league contract. He made their main team in spring training. However, the Twins released him on May 1, 2012. He became a free agent in October 2012.

Later Baseball Career

In 2013, Sean signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played for their Double-A team, the Chattanooga Lookouts. He played 57 games for them.
