The Seattle George Monument, also known as Seattle, Washington Monument, is a cool outdoor sculpture from 1989. It was created by an artist named Buster Simpson. You can find it outside the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, Washington, in the United States. It's a fun piece of art to discover!

About the Seattle George Monument

This sculpture is a special kind of art called a kinetic sculpture. This means it's designed to move or have parts that look like they could move. It's made from different materials like aluminum, steel, painted metal, wire, and even English ivy plants. It also uses concrete and shiny mylar sheets.

What the Sculpture Shows

The monument shows two important figures: Chief Seattle and George Washington. Chief Seattle was a leader of Native American tribes in the area. George Washington was the first president of the United States. The sculpture brings these two historical figures together in a unique way.

How It Looks and What It Means

The sculpture was made to look like the special highway shields you see on roads in Washington state. These shields tell you the number of the highway. This design connects the art to the state itself.

The bottom part of the sculpture is a trellis. A trellis is a frame that plants can grow on. Above this, you'll see something that looks like the nose of a Boeing 707 airplane hanging down. The Boeing 707 was a famous type of jet airplane.

On the base of the sculpture, you can read words from Chief Seattle's famous farewell speech. These words are carved in English and also in the sounds of the Salish language. This honors the history and people of the region.

Keeping the Sculpture Safe

In 1994, a group called "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" checked on the monument. They thought it needed some care to keep it in good shape. This shows how important it is to look after public art so everyone can enjoy it for a long time.
