Second Epistle to Timothy facts for kids
The Second Epistle to Timothy is a book in the Christian Bible. It is the sixteenth book in the New Testament. An "epistle" is another word for a letter.
This book is believed to be a letter from Apostle Paul to a younger helper named Timothy. Many people think it was the last letter Paul wrote before he died. Some others believe it was written by one of Paul's followers after Paul's death.
What This Letter Is About
In this letter, Paul gives Timothy important advice. He tells Timothy not to be afraid. Paul also tells him not to be ashamed to talk openly about Jesus. This is found in Chapter 1, verses 7 and 8.
Paul also asks Timothy to visit him before winter comes. He asks Timothy to bring a person named Mark with him. Paul felt that his own death was very close (Chapter 4, verse 6).
Paul's Advice to Timothy
Paul tells Timothy to work hard. He encourages Timothy to be strong when facing false teachings. He also tells Timothy to be faithful in all his duties as a pastor. A pastor is a leader in a church. Paul reminds Timothy that he would one day stand before God, who judges everyone. This advice is in Chapter 4, verses 1 to 5.
Paul's Farewell Message
Paul believed he would soon die for his faith. He writes about this in Chapter 4, verses 6 to 8. He says: "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course (race), I have kept the faith: in the future there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
This means Paul felt he had completed his mission. He believed he would receive a reward from God for his faithfulness.
