Segundo Cardona Colom, born in 1950, is a famous architect and developer from Puerto Rico. He is known for designing many important buildings and spaces. His amazing work has been recognized by big groups like the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Union of Architects. In 2006, he became a special member, called a Fellow, of the American Institute of Architects. He also received the Henry Klumb Award in 1992 for his excellent designs.

Becoming an Architect
Segundo Cardona studied at the University of Puerto Rico. He was part of the very first group of students to graduate from their School of Architecture in 1972. After finishing his studies, he taught architectural design at the University of Puerto Rico from 1974 to 1984.
Starting His Own Company
In 1984, Segundo Cardona teamed up with Luis Sierra and Alberto Ferrer. They started their own architecture company called Sierra Cardona Ferrer. Today, this company is known as SCF Architects.
Sharing His Knowledge
Mr. Cardona has always been involved in teaching and helping his community. Besides teaching at the University of Puerto Rico, he has also been a guest speaker and judge at many other universities. These include North Carolina State University and The Catholic University of America. He even served as the president of the Puerto Rican Architects Association. From 2004 to 2007, he was the President of the Board of Trustees for the University of Puerto Rico.
Special Projects and Awards
In 2008, a book was published about his work over 35 years. In 2013, he won a competition to help rebuild the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, Port-au-Prince in Haiti. In 2017, he won the Public Space Award at a big architects' meeting in Seoul. This award was for his design of the Paseo Puerta de Tierra, a beautiful walkway in Puerto Rico.
