Exploring Beaver Township's Communities
Beaver Township has five smaller communities within its borders. These are not separate towns, but rather local areas where people live and gather.
- Beaver is found where 9 Mile Road and Parish Road meet. You can find it at 43°42′42″N 84°04′04″W / 43.71167°N 84.06778°W.
- Duel is located at the crossing of Parish Road and Flajole Road. It is at 43°42′43″N 84°08′49″W / 43.71194°N 84.14694°W. This spot is about 195 meters (640 feet) above sea level.
- Loehne, sometimes spelled Loehme by mistake, is on 9 Mile Road between River Road and Seidlers Road. Its coordinates are 43°41′25″N 84°04′04″W / 43.69028°N 84.06778°W. It sits about 187 meters (614 feet) above sea level. This community was named after Edwin Loehne. He opened a post office here on April 20, 1894, which stayed open until July 20, 1904.
- Seidlers, also known as Seidler Corners, is at Seidlers Road and Garfield Road. You can find it at 43°40′58″N 84°05′16″W / 43.68278°N 84.08778°W. It is about 186 meters (610 feet) above sea level. Henry Seidler started this community in 1902. He had a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a saloon. A school was added in 1905.
- Willard is located where 11 Mile Road and Beaver Road cross. It is at 43°40′06″N 84°06′30″W / 43.66833°N 84.10833°W. This area is about 188 meters (617 feet) above sea level.
Beaver Township's Past: A Look Back
Beaver Township officially started on March 13, 1867. Three people – Levi Willard, Josiah L. Wellington, and Oscar H. Kellogg – helped set up the very first meeting for the township. This meeting took place on the first Monday in April of that year.
Later, in 1873, a part of Beaver Township became its own area called Deep River Township. Over the years, several communities in Beaver Township had their own post offices.
- A post office named Willard opened on February 26, 1885.
- The Duel community got its post office on November 30, 1892.
- The Loehne community's post office opened on April 20, 1894.
However, these post offices eventually closed down. The Willard Post Office closed on December 31, 1907. The Loehne post office closed on July 30, 1904. Finally, the Duel post office closed on March 31, 1908.

Beaver Township covers a total area of about 91.6 square kilometers (35.4 square miles). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.05 square kilometers (0.02 square miles), is water. This means it's mostly dry land, not lakes or rivers.
Who Lives in Beaver Township? (Demographics)
In 2000, there were 2,806 people living in Beaver Township. These people lived in 968 households, and 787 of those were families. The township had about 79 people per square mile (31 people per square kilometer).
Most people in the township were White (98.82%). A small number were Native American (0.14%) or Asian (0.18%). Some people were from other backgrounds (0.43%) or a mix of two or more races (0.43%). About 1.46% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (36.1%) had children under 18 living with them. Most households (73.0%) were married couples living together. The average household had about 2.86 people, and the average family had about 3.17 people.
