Exploring Sellwood Riverfront Park
This park used to be an old mill site, covered in Himalayan blackberries. But now, it's a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy!
Fun Activities and Green Spaces
The southern part of the park is perfect for outdoor fun. It has a big grassy area where you can have picnics or play games like frisbee. There's also a parking lot and places to launch boats into the river.
Discovering Nature and Wildlife
The northern part of the park is a special wetland area. It's filled with native plants and is a great home for marsh plants and willow trees. A winding path goes through this wetland, where you might spot frogs and colorful dragonflies. Another path follows the riverbank, leading towards Oaks Amusement Park further north.
Trails for Walking and Biking
Right next to the park, you'll find the Springwater Corridor. This is a popular trail for hiking and biking. It connects Sellwood Riverfront Park to other cool places like Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and even downtown Portland. It also links up with Oaks Amusement Park. Just across the Springwater Corridor is another park called Sellwood Park.
Nearby Attractions
Across the river from Sellwood Riverfront Park, you can see the Macadam Bay Club. A little north of that is Butterfly Park. So, there are many interesting spots to explore around the area!
Summer Concerts in the Park
During the summer, Portland Parks & Recreation often hosts free public concerts at Sellwood Riverfront Park. These concerts are a great way to enjoy music outdoors with your friends and family. For example, in 2010, there were four different concerts, featuring music styles like soul music, gospel, rhythm and blues (R&B), alternative pop, and rock.
