Sempach is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Lucerne area, near Lake Sempach. It is known for its history and beautiful lakeside views.

Sempach's Past: A Look at History
Sempach still has parts of its old medieval look. You can see the main gateway and a watch tower. A bridge crosses the old moat.
Not far from Sempach is the place where the famous Battle of Sempach happened. This battle took place on July 9, 1386. In this fight, the Swiss soldiers defeated the Austrians. Their leader, Duke Leopold, died in the battle.
A brave act by Arnold of Winkelried is part of the legend from this victory. Today, a special Battle Chapel marks the spot. It was fixed up in 1886. There is also a modern monument for Winkelried.
A few years later, in 1393, an important document was signed. It was called the Sempacherbrief. The original eight Swiss regions, called the Acht Orte, signed it. The region of Canton of Solothurn also signed. This was the first time all eight regions signed a document together. It stated that no region could start a war alone. They all had to agree first.
North of Sempach is the village of Beromünster. It has a church from the 10th century. Parts of it are from the 11th and 12th centuries. The first dated book in Switzerland was printed here in 1470.
Sempach is also home to the Sempach Bird Observatory. This is a special place where scientists study birds.
Where is Sempach? Geography and Nature
Sempach is built on the eastern side of Lake Sempach. The town is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) by road from the Sempach railway station. This station is on the main train line between Lucerne and Olten.
A large part of Sempach's land is used for farming. About 63.9% of the area is farmland. Forests cover about 14.1% of the land. The rest of the land has buildings and roads. Over the last 20 years, more land has been used for buildings. Less land is now used for farming.
Above the town, you can find a small lake called Steinibühlweiher.
