Early Life and Football Start
Serdar Aziz was born in Osmangazi, Bursa, Turkey. His father was of Turkish descent from North Macedonia. His mother was also from Bursa. Serdar has an older brother and sister. His father played football as a hobby.
When he was 10, Serdar joined a football school in Bursa. After two months, he signed a youth contract with Bursaspor. Serdar first played in midfield because he was small. However, he asked his coach to move him to centre-back. He felt he was not skilled enough for midfield. Serdar then had a growth spurt, which helped him become a strong defender.
Club Football Journey
Playing for Bursaspor
In 2006, coach Raşit Çetiner invited Serdar Aziz to train with the senior team. He did not play in a match yet, but he learned a lot. For the 2007–08 season, he was loaned to Bursa Merinosspor. Serdar was not happy about this at first. But he soon realized the club was closely linked to Bursaspor. He said that playing in the TFF Third League helped him become a professional centre-back.
Serdar made his first professional appearance for Bursaspor on October 25, 2008. They played against Fenerbahçe and lost 5–2. He was part of the Bursaspor team that won the Süper Lig in the 2009–10 season. This was a big achievement for the club.
Moving to Galatasaray
On July 1, 2016, Serdar Aziz moved to another Süper Lig club, Galatasaray. The transfer cost €4.5 million. He played his first game for Galatasaray on October 25, 2016. It was a Turkish Cup match against Dersimspor, which Galatasaray won 5–1.
His first Süper Lig game for Galatasaray was on November 20, 2016. They lost 2–0 to Fenerbahçe in a famous match called The Intercontinental Derby. On February 23, 2018, he scored a goal against his old club, Bursaspor. Galatasaray won 3–0, and Serdar chose not to celebrate his goal.
Joining Fenerbahçe
On January 31, 2019, Serdar Aziz transferred to Fenerbahçe, another Süper Lig team. He joined them for free and signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. He played his first match for Fenerbahçe on February 8, 2019. They won 1–0 against Göztepe.
On May 20, 2022, he signed a new three-year deal with Fenerbahçe. On September 21, 2023, he scored his first goal in a European competition. This was against Nordsjælland in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Fenerbahçe won that game 3–1. On July 8, 2024, Serdar Aziz and the club agreed that he would leave. He departed the team's training camp.
Playing for His Country
Serdar Aziz has played for Turkey at many youth levels. These include the U–16, U–17, U–18, U–19, and U–21 teams. He was part of the U–19 team that played in the 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship.
Serdar has some family roots in Kosovo. This meant he could have played for the Kosovo national team. However, he always saw himself as Turkish. He wanted to play for the Turkey senior team. He also turned down an offer to play for the Macedonia national football team.
He made his debut for the senior national team on November 16, 2014. In that game against Kazakhstan, he scored Turkey's third goal in a 3–1 win.
