Sérgio Cláudio dos Santos (born on June 27, 1971), known as Serginho, is a retired Brazilian footballer. He played as a left-back, left midfielder, or left winger. Serginho was famous for his amazing speed and powerful runs down the side of the field.

He won many important trophies with AC Milan, including the UEFA Champions League twice (in 2003 and 2007). He also helped Brazil win the 1999 Copa América. After he stopped playing, Serginho worked as a manager and agent for his former teammate, Dida.

Playing for Clubs

Serginho started his football journey in Brazil. He played for teams like Cruzeiro, Bahia, and São Paulo.

Joining AC Milan

In 1999, Serginho moved to Italy to play for AC Milan. At first, he often started games on the bench. But he was usually the first player to come on as a substitute.

One of his best games for Milan was on May 11, 2001. He scored one goal and helped set up three others. This helped Milan win 6–0 against their big rivals, Inter Milan.

Champions League Success

Serginho was a key player when Milan won the Champions League in 2003. He scored the first penalty in the shootout against Juventus.

However, the 2005 Champions League final was different. Milan was leading 3–0 at halftime but lost to Liverpool on penalties. Serginho missed his penalty shot.

He also helped Milan win the Italian league title in 2004. And he won the Champions League again in 2007.

Retirement from Football

On May 16, 2008, AC Milan announced that Serginho and his teammate Cafu would leave the club. Serginho also said he would retire from football at the end of that season. On May 18, he played his last few minutes in a match against Udinese. He looked very emotional at the end of the game.

Playing for Brazil

Serginho played ten games for the Brazilian national team between 1998 and 2001. He scored his only goal in the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup final.

He would have played more games for Brazil. But Roberto Carlos was the main left-back for the national team during Serginho's career.

Serginho played for Brazil in the 1999 Confederations Cup, where his team finished second. He also won the 1999 Copa América with Brazil. He could not play in the 2002 FIFA World Cup because of a leg injury.

How Serginho Played

Serginho was known for being incredibly fast and working very hard. He was an attacking player who could play as a left-back, a wing-back, or even on the left wing. He kept his amazing speed and energy even when he was in his mid-to-late 30s.

Besides his speed, he was also great at crossing the ball. He was good at running past defenders and getting into good positions to attack. This helped him set up many goals and even score some himself. His nickname was Il Concorde ("The Concorde"). This was because of his fast and tireless runs down the left side of the field.
