In 1951, when he was just 16, Sergio opened his very first shoe shop. He started by making cool sandals and selling them to people visiting the beaches in Rimini. He also sold them in fancy shops in Bologna.
Creating the Sergio Rossi Brand
By 1968, Sergio Rossi started making shoes with his own special brand name on them. Each pair of his shoes was made with great care. It took at least 14 hours to create one pair, going through 120 different steps!
His shoes became very popular and were seen on fashion runways for famous designers like Gianni Versace, Azzedine Alaia, and Dolce & Gabbana. Sergio first became well-known in the 1960s. The movie director Federico Fellini even used his shoes for actress Anita Ekberg in the famous film La Dolce Vita.
Changes for the Company
In 1999, Sergio Rossi sold his company to the Gucci Group, which is now known as Kering. Later, in 2015, Kering sold the brand to another company called Investindustrial.
