Discover Sesheke: A Zambian Border Town
Sesheke is an important town because of its location. It connects Zambia with its neighbor, Namibia. This connection is very helpful for trade and travel.
The Katima Mulilo Bridge
A big bridge called the Katima Mulilo Bridge was finished in May 2004. This bridge crosses the Zambezi River. It links Sesheke in Zambia with the town of Katima Mulilo in Namibia.
The M10 road also got better in 2004. This road connects Sesheke to Livingstone and the famous Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is about 200 kilometers (124 miles) to the east.
Sesheke's Growing Economy
The new bridge and road were paid for by a German bank. They completed a major route called the "Trans Caprivi Corridor." Today, it is known as the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Road.
This road is about 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) long. It connects Zambia's Copperbelt region to Namibia's sea port, Walvis Bay. Because of this new road, much more goods are now moved by trucks. This has led to new buildings and businesses in both Sesheke and Katima Mulilo.
Exploring Sesheke: Tourism
Better roads and new places for tourists to stay have helped tourism grow. Many visitors now pass through Sesheke. They might be going to Victoria Falls or to the Sioma Ngwezi National Park. This park is about 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Sesheke.
Tourists also visit the upper Zambezi River and the Barotse Floodplain. The improved access makes it easier for people to explore these beautiful areas.
Road Connections to Other Towns
The M10 road also links Sesheke to Senanga and Mongu. These towns are about 300 kilometers (186 miles) north-north-west. This part of the road runs along the south bank of the river, upstream from Sesheke.
Even though the bridge connects to Namibia, Zambian traffic does not have to enter Namibia. The entire Katima Mulilo Bridge is located within Zambian territory.
