The Sevenmile Mountains are a mountain range located in the middle of Gila County, Arizona, in the United States. These mountains reach a high point of about 6,629 feet (2,020 meters) above sea level. The tallest peak is called Seven on maps. It stands out from other peaks around it by about 989 feet (301 meters).
Most of the southern part of the Sevenmile Mountains is on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. This is a special area managed by the San Carlos Apache Tribe. If you want to explore this part, you need to get permission from the Reservation first.
The highest point of the mountains and their northwestern tip are inside the Tonto National Forest. This area is open for hiking without needing to follow specific trails. The tallest peak is only about 3 miles east of a section of U.S. Route 60 in Arizona. This highway runs between the towns of Globe, Arizona and Show Low, Arizona. The Sevenmile Mountains are part of a larger area called the Arizona transition zone, where different types of land meet.
Where are the Sevenmile Mountains?
The highest point of the Sevenmile Mountains is located at coordinates 33.6017 degrees North and 110.5859 degrees West. The closest town to these mountains is Globe, Arizona. Globe is about 17 miles (27 kilometers) southwest of the mountains, right along U.S. Route 60.
Camping Near the Mountains
If you like camping, there's a place called Jones Water campground. It's about 3.6 miles (5.8 kilometers) west-southwest of the highest peak, right off US Route 60.
Jones Water is a special campground with small, private spots for tents. It's located in a green, watery area at an elevation of about 4,000 feet (1,219 meters). This campground is free to use and offers basic things like a place to set up your tent.
