Sgùrr na Cìche is a tall mountain located in the west of Scotland. It stands in a wild and beautiful area called Knoydart. This part of Knoydart is sometimes known as the Rough Bounds because it's quite remote and rugged.
This mountain is very easy to spot because it has a unique, pointy shape. You can see it from many other famous Scottish mountains, like Càrn Eige and Ben Nevis.
About Sgùrr na Cìche
Sgùrr na Cìche is a very important mountain for climbers. It is known as a Munro, which is a Scottish mountain over 3,000 feet (914.4 metres) high. It is also a Marilyn, meaning it stands out significantly from the land around it.
What Makes It Special?
Sgùrr na Cìche is 1040 metres (about 3,412 feet) tall. It has a very high prominence, which means it rises sharply from the land around it. Even though it has close neighbours like Ladhar Bheinn and The Saddle, a deep valley separates it from them. This makes Sgùrr na Cìche the 25th most prominent mountain in Britain.
How to Climb Sgùrr na Cìche?
Climbing Sgùrr na Cìche can be an exciting adventure. One way to reach the top is from the southern side of Knoydart, starting at the end of Loch Nevis. You would follow a ridge called Druim a' Ghoirtein.
However, because the Knoydart area is quite far from towns, many people climb Sgùrr na Cìche as part of a longer trip. They often start from Glen Dessarry and also climb two other nearby Munros: Garbh Cìoch Mhòr and Sgùrr nan Coireachan.
The Wettest Place
Here's a cool fact about Sgùrr na Cìche: it's located in the wettest place in the entire United Kingdom! On average, this area gets about 200 inches (which is about 5080 millimetres) of rain every year. That's a lot of rain!
