Shahid Mahmood's Cricket Journey
Shahid Mahmood played a type of cricket called first-class cricket in Pakistan. He started playing in 1957 and continued until 1969. First-class cricket matches are usually played over three or four days. They are a step below international Test matches.
Playing for Pakistan
In 1962, Shahid Mahmood got the chance to play for his country. He played in one Test match for Pakistan. A Test match is the longest and highest form of cricket, played between national teams. His only Test match was against England during Pakistan's tour there in 1962.
A Special Achievement
Shahid Mahmood made history in his last season of first-class cricket, which was 1969–70. He became the very first Pakistani bowler to achieve something amazing: he took all ten wickets in a single first-class innings. This means he got every single player on the opposing team out by bowling them. It is a very rare and difficult feat in cricket!
Life After Cricket
After he stopped playing cricket professionally, Shahid Mahmood moved to the United States. He lived there for many years and passed away in New Jersey in 2020.
