Shankar Mahadevan, born on March 3, 1967, is a famous Indian singer and music composer. He is part of a super cool music group called Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. This trio creates amazing music for Indian movies. In 2023, he received a special honorary degree from Birmingham City University.

Shankar Mahadevan's Early Life and Music Journey
Growing Up in Mumbai
Shankar Mahadevan was born in Chembur, Mumbai. His family originally came from Palakkad, Kerala. From a young age, Shankar loved music.
Learning Music
As a child, he learned two main types of Indian classical music. These were Hindustani classical and Carnatic music. He started playing the veena, an Indian string instrument, when he was just five years old. His first teacher was Shri Lalitha Venkataraman. He also learned from other great music teachers like Pandit Shrinivas Khale.
From Engineer to Musician
Shankar went to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School in Chembur. In 1988, he earned a degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering. He even worked as a software engineer for a company called Leading Edge. But his true passion was music, so he decided to follow his dream.
His Family
Shankar Mahadevan has two sons, Siddharth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan. Both of his sons have also become singers, following in their father's footsteps!
