Shannon Gomez (born 5 October 1996) is a soccer player from Trinidad and Tobago. He plays as a right-back, which means he defends the right side of the field. Shannon currently plays for San Antonio FC in the USL Championship and is also part of the Trinidad and Tobago national team.

Shannon Gomez's Soccer Journey

Early Years and School Soccer

Shannon Gomez went to Carapichaima RC Primary and St Augustine Secondary School when he was younger. He was the captain of his school team at St Augustine. In 2013, he led his team to win the Intercol championship. They beat Fatima College in the final game.

After school, Shannon played for several youth soccer clubs. These included Waterloo Institute, Cap Off Youths, and St Mary's United. Later, he joined San Juan Jabloteh.

Starting Professional Soccer

In August 2014, Shannon Gomez joined TT Pro League club W Connection. In his first season, his team finished second in the league. This allowed them to play in the 2016 CFU Club Championship.

Shannon played every minute of his team's four games in the 2015–16 CONCACAF Champions League. A big moment was when W Connection won 2–1 against the Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa.

Playing in the United States

In March 2016, Shannon Gomez moved to the MLS team New York City FC. He joined them on loan from W Connection. He signed a contract with the club after their final pre-season training camp. Shannon has a green card, which means he does not take up a special spot for international players on the team.

He was on the bench for a game against Chicago Fire in April 2016, but he did not play in that match. Shannon returned to W Connection in Trinidad and Tobago at the end of 2016.

In November 2016, New York City FC decided to sign Shannon Gomez permanently. However, he left the club in November 2017.

On February 7, 2018, Shannon joined Sacramento Republic in the United Soccer League. He played for them until the end of the 2021 season.

In January 2022, Shannon Gomez signed with San Antonio FC, another team in the USL Championship. He has been playing for them since then.

Shannon Gomez's International Career

Playing for Youth National Teams

Shannon Gomez first played for his country with the Trinidad and Tobago Under-17s. His first game was in July 2012, when they won 23–0 against the British Virgin Islands Under-17s. He played five more games for the Under-17 team, with his last game in April 2013.

He made his debut for the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20s in January 2015. This game was a 2–2 draw against Jamaica Under-20s. He played four more games as captain for this team that month.

Shannon also played one minute for the Under-21s in a 3–0 win against St Vincent and The Grenadines in August 2013. He then played for the Trinidad and Tobago Under-22s in July 2015. He played in a 4–0 loss to Uruguay Under-22s. He also played in games against Paraguay Under-22s and Mexico Under-22s.

Playing for the Senior National Team

Shannon Gomez made his first appearance for the senior Trinidad and Tobago national team on March 28, 2015. This was a friendly game against Panama, which Trinidad and Tobago lost 1–0. Shannon played for 77 minutes before being replaced.

His second game for the national team was on June 6, 2015. He played for seven minutes in a 1–0 loss to Curaçao.

In June 2023, Shannon Gomez was chosen to be part of the Trinidad and Tobago squad for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
