Shannon Regina "Pee Wee" Johnson (born August 18, 1974) is an American basketball player. She was born in Hartsville, South Carolina. Shannon played as a Point guard for many teams. Her last team in the WNBA was the Seattle Storm. After her playing career, she became a head coach at Coker College.

Shannon's Basketball Journey

Shannon Johnson had a long and successful career in basketball. She played both in the United States and overseas.

Early Career and ABL Success

After playing college basketball, Shannon joined the Columbus Quest. With this team, she won two championships. These wins were in 1997 and 1998. The championships were part of the American Basketball League.

Playing in the WNBA

In 1999, Shannon began playing in the WNBA. Her first WNBA team was the Orlando Miracle. She played for the Miracle until 2002. In 2003, the team moved and became the Connecticut Sun. Shannon played for the Sun for one season.

Moving to New Teams

Before the 2004 season, Shannon was traded. She joined the San Antonio Silver Stars. She played there for three seasons. In 2007, she signed with the Detroit Shock. The next year, in 2008, she played for the Houston Comets. When the Comets team closed, Shannon became a free agent. Her final WNBA team was the Seattle Storm in 2009.

WNBA All-Star

Shannon was a very talented player. She was chosen to be a WNBA All-Star multiple times. She earned this honor in 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2003. This shows she was one of the best players in the league.

Playing Overseas

Besides the WNBA, Shannon also played basketball in other countries. She played for teams in Turkey and Spain. Playing overseas allowed her to continue her career during the WNBA off-season.

In 1995, Shannon was part of the Jones Cup Team. This team won a bronze medal in Taipei. The next year, in 1996, she returned to the Jones Cup. This time, her team won the gold medal. They had a perfect record of nine wins and no losses.

World University Games Gold

In August 1997, Shannon represented the US at the World University Games. These games were held in Italy. The USA team won all six of their games. This earned them another gold medal.

World Championship Gold

In 2002, Shannon was on the national team for the World Championships in China. The team was coached by Van Chancellor. In one important game, Shannon scored 20 points. This helped the US team win against Spain. The USA team then played Russia for the gold medal. Shannon made a key steal late in the game. This helped the USA team win the gold medal.

Olympic Gold Medalist

One of Shannon's biggest achievements was winning a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She was a member of the USA Basketball team that competed in Athens, Greece. This is a huge honor for any athlete.
