Shantanu Moitra, born on January 22, 1968, is a talented Indian musician. He is a skilled pianist and a composer who creates music for movies. He is well-known for his amazing music in popular Hindi films like Parineeta (2005), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), and 3 Idiots (2009). He also composed music for albums such as Mann ke Manjeere. In 2014, he won a special award, the National Film Award for Best Music Direction, for his background music in the film Na Bangaaru Talli.

Early Life and School Days
Shantanu Moitra was born in Lucknow, India. His father came from a family of musicians. When Shantanu was very young, his family moved to Delhi. He went to Springdales School in Delhi.
Discovering Music at School
At school, Shantanu was the leader and singer of a band. In 1982, his band put on the school's very first rock show! He even received an award from his school for his musical talents. This award made him feel very confident about his music. He also learned from an urban-folk singer named Sushmit Bose, who sometimes visited the school. Later, Shantanu moved to Chittaranjan Park in South Delhi. He studied Economics at Deshbandhu College, Delhi University.
Shantanu Moitra's Music Career
Shantanu Moitra started his career working at an advertising agency. Music was just a hobby for him at first. One day, he was asked to create a jingle (a short song for an advertisement) at the last minute. This jingle was for "Uncle Chipps" and became very popular. After that, he composed many more jingles for different brands.
From Jingles to Film Music
His success with jingles led him to compose music for pop albums. These albums, like Ab ke Saawan and Mann ke Manjeere, became hits. In 2002, Shantanu moved to Mumbai to work on his first movie, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. He then teamed up with lyricist Swanand Kirkire.
Before the movie Parineeta was made, Shantanu had created a song called Raath Hamari To. The producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, heard it and was very impressed. Because of this, Shantanu got his first big Bollywood project: Parineeta (2005).
Gaining Recognition
Shantanu Moitra became widely known for his music in Parineeta. Critics praised his work, and he was nominated for a Filmfare Best Music Director Award. In the same year, he won the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent. In 2009, he composed music for his first Bengali film, Antaheen.
He also served as a judge for two seasons of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Bangla, a popular music show. Shantanu also wrote a book in Bengali called Ferari Mon - Memories by Santanu Moitra. In 2016, he went on a 100-day journey across the Himalayas. This adventure was filmed and shared on YouTube as “100 days in Himalayas.”
