History of Sharon, Georgia
The community of Sharon has been shown on maps since at least 1865. The name "Sharon" comes from the Plain of Sharon, a place mentioned in the Hebrew Bible.
How Sharon Became a City
In 1884, the Georgia General Assembly officially made Sharon a town. This means it was given the power to govern itself.
The Electric Health Resort
In the 1890s, Sharon was a busy place. Thousands of people visited a special spot nearby called the Electric Health Resort. People believed that touching the bedrock in an underground room there could help them heal. The resort had a hotel, a lake, and even its own post office. Sadly, the resort later burned down.
