Sharon is a small, unincorporated community in Madison County, Mississippi, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but no local government of its own.

Sharon is located along Mississippi Highway 43. It is about 12 kilometers (7 miles) northeast of Canton. It is also about 19 kilometers (12 miles) southwest of Camden. Sharon is part of the larger Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's included in the area around the city of Jackson.

Sharon's History

Sharon has a rich history, especially when it comes to education. From 1837 to 1873, it was home to an important school called Sharon Female College. This college was one of the first schools for young women in the area. The community itself was named after this college.

Another college, Madison College, was also founded in Sharon in 1845. By the year 1900, Sharon had grown to include three churches. At that time, about 173 people lived in the community.
