History of Sharpsburg
The story of Sharpsburg began with a brave soldier named Moses Sharp. He fought in the American Revolutionary War. In 1780, he settled in this area. Later, in 1814, he planned out a town on his land and called it Bloomfield.
Moses Sharp passed away in 1820. After his death, the town got its first post office. However, there was already another town in Kentucky named Bloomfield. So, the postmaster decided to name the new post office, and later the town, after Moses Sharp. That's how Bloomfield became Sharpsburg! The town officially started in 1825 and became an incorporated city in 1852.
