Sharyn Egan (born 1957) is a talented Nyoongar artist from Australia. She is well-known for her amazing work in painting, sculpture, and weaving. Sharyn Egan also creates special "walking" art experiences. She lives in Fremantle, Western Australia. Her artworks are displayed in important places like the National Museum of Australia. She has also made art for the famous Perth International Arts Festival.

Sharyn Egan's Early Life

Sharyn Egan was born in 1957 in Subiaco, Western Australia. When she was three years old, she was separated from her family. She lived at the New Norcia Mission until she was 13. She did not get to live with her parents again.

In 2007, Sharyn Egan helped write a book about Australian art called In the Mean Time. In 2018, she worked with other artists on a project at the Blacktown Native Institution Site. This place was important because it educated Māori and Aboriginal children who had been separated from their families.

Sharyn Egan's Education Journey

Sharyn Egan went back to school when she was 37 years old. From 1994 to 1998, she studied for a diploma at what is now the Central Institute of Technology in Perth. After that, she earned an associate degree in art by the year 2000. The next year, she received a graduate degree from Perth's Curtin University of Technology. She continued her studies, earning more qualifications in Cultural Tourism and Training and Assessment by 2008.

Art for Respect and Understanding

Sharyn Egan has spent many years working in Fremantle, Western Australia. She creates outdoor artworks, special art walks, and interactive workshops. Her art has been shown in galleries like the Fremantle Art Centre.

In 2023, the City of Fremantle supported a new public artwork idea by Egan and Simon Gilby. This artwork, called "Respect, Recognition and Reconciliation," is planned for Kings Square. They want to invite 14 Noongar clans to share stones from their communities for the artwork. The piece will also show Noongar star patterns and traditional stories.
