Sharyn Egan's Early Life

Sharyn Egan was born in 1957 in Subiaco, Western Australia. When she was just three years old, she was taken from her family. This happened because she was part of the Stolen Generations. This was a sad time in Australian history. Many Aboriginal children were removed from their families by the government.

Sharyn lived at the New Norcia Mission until she was 13. She never saw her parents again after being taken away.

In 2007, Sharyn helped write a book about Australian art. It was called In the Mean Time. In 2018, she worked with other artists. They created art for the Blacktown Native Institution Site. This place was once a school for Aboriginal and Māori children. These children, like Sharyn, had been taken from their families.

Sharyn Egan went back to school when she was 37 years old. In 1994, she started studying for a diploma. This was at what is now the Central Institute of Technology in Perth. She finished her diploma in 1998.
