Shatin Pui Ying College, also known as SPYC or PYC, is a Christian school in Hong Kong. It opened in 1978. This secondary school teaches in English and gets full support from the government. The school's symbol is an eagle, which stands for courage and determination.

School History and Growth

The story of Pui Ying schools began with Rev Henry Noyes. He was a minister from the U.S. Presbyterian Church. In 1879, he started a small school called An Hwoh School in Guangzhou. This school taught subjects like Mathematics and Science.

Over time, the Pui Ying schools grew a lot. More schools were opened in different cities like Guangzhou, Taishan, and Jiangmen. There were also Pui Ying schools in Hong Kong.

Founding Shatin Pui Ying College

In 1978, the Pui Ying schools celebrated 100 years. To mark this special event, they opened a new school. This new school was Shatin Pui Ying College. It was an Anglo-Chinese school, meaning it taught in both English and Chinese. Mr. Wong Wai Wah was its first Principal.

At first, the school used classrooms at Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School. Then, in September 1979, Shatin Pui Ying College moved into its own building. This new building in Wo Che Estate had 24 classrooms. The school library opened in September 1982.

To help more students continue their studies, the school changed its class structure. This allowed all students in Form 3 to move on to Form 4 at the school. The Student Union was created in September 1995. A Parent-Teacher Association was also set up in 1996.

New Facilities and Learning

A new building was added to the school in July 2005. This new wing has classrooms for older students. It also has a new, bigger library and other special rooms for learning.

The school helps students improve their English skills in many ways. They have exchange students from countries like Italy, Brazil, and Germany. These students help everyone practice English. The school also offers fun activities like script-writing, drama, and English camps. They even put on English musicals!
