Joey Yung Tso-Yi (born 16 June 1980) is a famous Hong Kong singer and actress. She is known for her work in the Cantopop music scene and is signed to the Emperor Entertainment Group.
Since starting her career in 1996, Joey has won many awards. She won the JSG Most Popular Female Singer award a record-breaking number of times. In 2014, Forbes magazine named her the most influential female singer from Hong Kong. That year, she earned about HK$80 million (US$10.3 million).

Early Life and First Steps in Music
Joey Yung was born in Hong Kong. She loved singing from a young age. When she was fifteen, she won a singing contest. This led to her first record deal with a company called Go East Entertainment.
She recorded a song for a movie, but it wasn't a big hit. The record label decided not to continue working with her. This was a difficult start, but Joey didn't give up. She went back to school and also worked to help her family.
Later, she got another chance with a record label called Pony Canyon, but the company's Hong Kong office closed down soon after. Even with these challenges, Joey kept pursuing her dream.
Career
1998–2002: A Star is Born
In 1998, Joey's career finally took off when she signed with the record label Fitto Entertainment, which later became EEG. She trained with famous singing coaches like Roman Tam to improve her skills.
On 30 September 1999, she released her first mini-album, called an EP, titled EP 1 Joey. It was a huge success, selling 130,000 copies in Hong Kong.
In 2000, she acted in her first movie, Winner Takes All, and her first TV show, The Green Hope. She also held her first big concert at the famous Hong Kong Coliseum.
Over the next two years, she released more successful albums. Her compilation album Love Joey was the best-selling album in Hong Kong in 2001. She also released her first album in Mandarin, the main language of Taiwan and Mainland China, to reach more fans.
2003–2009: Becoming a Superstar
The year 2003 was a major turning point for Joey. She released the song "My Pride" (我的驕傲), which became incredibly popular. The song was featured in a popular TV commercial and was on her album of the same name.
Because of this song's success, she won many of the biggest music awards in Hong Kong. She won the JSG Most Popular Female Singer award for the first time. She also won the Media Award for being the artist with the most awards that year.
From 2004 to 2009, Joey continued to release hit albums and hold sold-out concerts. In 2005, her concert series Reflection of Joey's Live was a huge success. By this time, she had sold over five million albums worldwide.
In 2008, she was chosen to sing official songs for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She also started a world tour, performing for fans in Malaysia, Canada, the United States, and other countries. By 2009, she was celebrating her tenth anniversary as a top artist in the music industry.
2010–2019: A Decade of Hits
In 2011, Joey performed at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London. She was the first Chinese female singer to have a concert there. This was a huge honor and showed her international popularity.
She continued to release successful albums like Joey & Joey (2011) and Little Day (2013). She also starred in the movie Diva (2012), where she played a singer named J Yim.
Between 2013 and 2015, she held a massive concert tour called Ageas Joey Yung in Concert 1314. She performed 15 shows in Hong Kong and then took the tour to other countries.
In 2019, to celebrate her career, she held the Pretty Crazy Joey Yung Concert Tour. She invited many famous singers to be her guests, including Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, and Nicholas Tse.
2020–Present: New Music and Shows
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Joey spent more time in Mainland China. In 2021, she joined the popular Chinese reality TV show Sisters Who Make Waves (season 2). On the show, famous female artists compete in singing and dancing challenges. Joey did very well and finished in 4th place.
She has continued to release new music, including the Cantonese single "After All These" in 2021. She even directed the music video for the song herself.
Personal Life
In 2012, singer Wilfred Lau announced that he and Joey were in a relationship. They were together for several years before breaking up in 2018.
During the 2019-2020 Hong Kong Protests, Joey supported a government campaign to "rebuild Hong Kong." In 2021, she also posted on social media to show her support for cotton produced in the Xinjiang region of China.
