The Shawinigan Cataractes (French: Cataractes de Shawinigan) are a Canadian junior ice hockey team. They play in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The team is based in Shawinigan, Quebec. Their home games are played at the Centre Gervais Auto.
The team has had a few names over the years. They were first known as the Shawinigan Bruins until 1973. Then, from 1973 to 1978, they were called the Shawinigan Dynamos. Since 1978, they have been the Shawinigan Cataractes.

The name "Cataractes" comes from the French word "cataracte". This word means a powerful waterfall. It comes from the Latin word "cataracta," which also means 'waterfall'. The team is named after the Shawinigan Falls. This is a famous waterfall in the city of Shawinigan.
