Shawsville is a community in Montgomery County, Virginia, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP) because it's an area that the government counts for population statistics, but it's not an officially incorporated town. In 2010, about 1,310 people lived there. Shawsville is part of a larger area that includes the cities of Blacksburg and Christiansburg.

History of Shawsville
Shawsville is located near the spot where an old fort once stood. This fort was called Fort Vause. It was built in 1753 by a person named Ephraim Vause.
Fort Vause and the French and Indian War
During the French and Indian War (a big conflict between Great Britain and France, along with their Native American allies), Fort Vause was attacked. On June 25, 1756, Shawnee Indians attacked and destroyed the fort. Many people were affected, and about 150 were taken captive.
A group of soldiers led by Major Andrew Lewis arrived too late to help. However, the fort was rebuilt quickly. General George Washington even visited it in October 1756 to check on the defenses of the frontier.
