Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize facts for kids
The Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize is a special award given every year. It's part of the BC Book Prizes. This award celebrates the best books for kids and young adults. These books can be either fiction (made-up stories) or non-fiction (true stories). To win, the author must live in British Columbia or the Yukon, Canada. The prize started in 1987 and is supported by the B.C. Library Association.
History of the Prize
When the Sheila A. Egoff Prize first began, it was given for all kinds of children's books. This included books with lots of pictures and books with mostly text. However, things changed in 2003. A new award was created called the Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize. This new prize is now given specifically for illustrated books. Because of this, the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize now focuses only on books that are not heavily illustrated.
