Sheila Beryl Grant Sim, Baroness Attenborough (born June 5, 1922 – died January 19, 2016) was an English actress. She acted in both films and plays. She was also married to the famous actor and director, Richard Attenborough.

Sheila Sim's Acting Career
Sheila Beryl Grant Sim was born in Liverpool, England. Her father was a banker. She grew up in Liverpool and later in Purley, Surrey. She went to a special school before training to be an actress. She studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
Sheila Sim was most active as an actress in the 1940s and 1950s. She appeared in several movies. One of her films was A Canterbury Tale (1944). She also acted with her husband in The Guinea Pig (1948). Another film she starred in was West of Zanzibar (1954).
On stage, she acted in the very first show of The Mousetrap. This famous play by Agatha Christie opened in London in 1952. Sheila Sim played the character of Mollie Ralston in this show.
Sheila Sim also helped a lot with a charity called the Actors' Charitable Trust. She worked with them for over 60 years. She helped make sure that a special care home for actors, called Denville Hall, was improved in the 1960s and 2000s. She was a leader in these charities.
She also gave a lot of support to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). This was the school where she first learned to act. Her husband, Richard Attenborough, was the president of RADA for many years.
Sheila Sim's Family Life

Sheila Sim married Richard Attenborough on January 22, 1945. They lived in a house in Richmond Green in London for many years.
They had three children together. Their children were Michael (born 1950), Jane (born 1955), and Charlotte (born 1959). Sadly, Jane, her daughter Lucy, and her mother-in-law passed away during the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
Michael and Charlotte both work in the arts. Michael is a director, and Charlotte is an actress. Sheila's younger brother, Gerald, was also an actor.
Richard Attenborough passed away on August 24, 2014. Sheila and Richard had been married for 69 years.
Later Life and Passing
In June 2012, Sheila Sim moved into Denville Hall. This is a retirement home for actors that she and her husband had helped to fund. In July 2012, it was shared that Sheila had been diagnosed with a memory illness called dementia.
In March 2013, Richard Attenborough also moved into Denville Hall to be with his wife. Their son Michael confirmed this. Sheila's younger brother Gerald also lived there until he passed away in December 2014.
Sheila Sim passed away on January 19, 2016. Her ashes were placed in a special vault at St Mary Magdalene church in Richmond. Her husband, her daughter Jane, and her granddaughter Lucy are also buried there.
