Shekhinah Thandi Donnell (born October 2, 1994), known simply as Shekhinah, is a talented singer and songwriter from South Africa. She first became known when she appeared on the TV show SA Idols. She made it to the Top 32 in 2011 and then the Top 6 in 2012.
Her first album, Rose Gold, came out in 2017. It became very popular and sold a huge number of copies, earning a Multi-Platinum award from RiSA (Recording Industry of South Africa). This album had three songs that reached number one: "Suited," "Please Mr.," and "Different."
Her second album, Trouble In Paradise, was released in 2021. It also did very well, earning a Gold award from RiSA.
Shekhinah's Music Journey
Early Success with Rose Gold
In 2017, Shekhinah released her first big song, "Suited." This song quickly became number one on the music charts in South Africa. It was so popular that it received a Diamond award, meaning it sold an incredible amount of copies! In 2018, she released two more hit songs, "Please Mr." and "Different." "Please Mr." also earned a Platinum award for its sales.
Her first album, Rose Gold, was released on October 6, 2017, by Sony Music Entertainment Africa. Shekhinah wrote the songs herself, with help from other talented people like David Scott and DJ Maphorisa. The album featured a mix of Pop and R&B music. Rose Gold became her most successful album, selling many copies and earning a Multi-Platinum award in South Africa. The album included the three popular songs: "Suited," "Please Mr.," and "Different."
Rose Gold was a big hit at the 2018 South African Music Awards. Shekhinah received six nominations and won three major awards: Newcomer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Female Artist of the Year.
Trouble In Paradise and Recent Music
On May 7, 2021, Shekhinah released her second album, Trouble In Paradise. This album included two popular songs, "Fixate" and "Tide." Trouble In Paradise also achieved a Gold award from the Recording Industry of South Africa. The song "Fixate" was very popular and reached number one on the RAMS Chart.
In March 2023, Shekhinah shared exciting news about her upcoming third album. She also released a new song called "Risk" on March 22, 2024, which features another artist named Moliy. "Risk" quickly became popular on the radio, reaching number 9 on the Local Radio Chart Top 10.
