Shekhinah Thandi Donnell (born on October 2, 1990), known simply as Shekhinah, is a talented singer and songwriter from South Africa. She first became known when she appeared on the TV show SA Idols. She made it to the Top 32 in 2011 and then the Top 6 in 2012.
Her first album, Rose Gold, came out in 2017. It was a huge success, selling so many copies that it was certified Multi-Platinum by RiSA. This means it sold a lot more than a million copies! The album had three super popular songs that reached number one: "Suited", "Please Mr.", and "Different".
Her second album, Trouble In Paradise, was released in 2021. It also did very well and was certified Gold by RiSA, meaning it sold over 15,000 copies.
Shekhinah's Music Journey
Starting Out and First Big Hits
Shekhinah started making a name for herself in music around 2016. In 2017, she released a song called "Suited". This song quickly became a massive hit, reaching number one on music charts in South Africa. It was so popular that it earned a "diamond plaque" from RiSA, which means it sold an incredible amount of copies!
In 2018, she released two more hit songs, "Please Mr." and "Different". Both of these songs also reached the top of the charts. "Please Mr." was certified Platinum, meaning it sold over 30,000 copies.
Rose Gold Album Success
On October 6, 2017, Shekhinah's first album, Rose Gold, was released. She wrote the songs with help from other talented artists like David Scott and DJ Maphorisa. The album mixed Pop and R&B music styles.
Rose Gold became her most successful album ever. It sold so many copies that it was certified Multi-Platinum in South Africa. This album gave us the three big hit singles: "Suited", "Please Mr.", and "Different".
Because of how well Rose Gold did, Shekhinah received six nominations at the 2018 South African Music Awards. She won three big awards: Newcomer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Female Artist of the Year.
Trouble In Paradise and More Music
On May 7, 2021, Shekhinah released her second album, Trouble In Paradise. This album featured two popular songs, "Fixate" and "Tide". "Fixate" was a big hit, reaching number one on the RAMS Chart.
Trouble In Paradise was certified Gold by RiSA, showing that it was also very popular with fans.
New Music Coming Soon!
In early 2023, Shekhinah shared exciting news: she is working on her third album! The first song from this new album is called "Risk" and features another artist named Moliy. "Risk" was released on March 22, 2024.
"Risk" quickly became popular, reaching number 9 on the Local Radio Chart Top 10.
