Life and Career

Early Life and First Steps

Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo was born on 11 February 1997 in Diepkloof, a part of Soweto, Johannesburg. When he was very young, his mother passed away. He then moved to Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal, to live with his father, David Maviyo Ngcobo.

His older brother, Siyabonga Ngcobo, inspired him to become a rapper. David learned how to make music from his brother when he was just nine years old. He also has a younger brother named Olwethu. David went to Strelitzia Secondary School in Lotus Park, Durban.

When he was fourteen, Nasty C released his first mixtape called One Kid, a Thousand Coffins in 2012. He then released an EP called L.A.M.E in 2014. In 2015, he released his second mixtape, Price City. This mixtape included the popular song "Juice Back," which made him very famous. Later, a remix of "Juice Back" was made with singers Davido and Cassper Nyovest.

Rising to Fame with Bad Hair

In February 2016, Nasty C released "Hell Naw." This song was the first single from his upcoming album. On 23 September, he released his first album, Bad Hair. For the album's cover, he asked fans on Twitter to send pictures of their "bad hair" days. He then used these pictures to create his face on the album cover.

Bad Hair quickly became number one on the iTunes charts in South Africa. It was also the most streamed album in the country within 24 hours. Nasty C also released a 15-minute film with three songs from Bad Hair. This film was shown in many countries, which was a big deal for an African music video.

In December 2016, Nasty C released an extended version of the album called Bad Hair Extensions. This version had four new songs, including "Allow" featuring American rapper French Montana. Nasty C won many awards in 2016 and 2017. He was also nominated for the BET Award for Best International Act: Africa in 2017.

Big Deals and Strings and Bling

In February 2018, Nasty C signed a deal with Universal Music Africa. This helped his music reach more people. In June 2018, he signed another deal with Universal Music Group Nigeria. After this, he released two new songs, "Jungle" and "King," which featured American rapper A$AP Ferg. These songs were from his second album, Strings and Bling.

Strings and Bling was released on 6 July 2018. Many people praised the album, and it was called one of the best hip hop albums in South Africa. Other popular songs from the album included "SMA" featuring Rowlene.

In August 2018, Nasty C started his own music company called Tall Racks Records. The first artist to sign with his label was Rowlene, who he had worked with before. In October 2018, Nasty C started The Ivyson Tour in Durban. The tour had five successful shows in South Africa and Namibia. Nasty C was also named an ambassador for the male grooming company, Axe South Africa, in 2019. He won two AFRIMA awards in 2019 for Best African Rapper/Lyricist and Best African Collaboration.

Joining Def Jam and Zulu Man with Some Power

Nasty C continued his Ivyson Tour in September 2019. He also released "God Flow" featuring crownedYung, which was the first song from his third album, Zulu Man with Some Power.

In March 2020, it was announced that Nasty C signed a big deal with Def Jam Records. His first song under this label was "There They Go." In April 2020, Nasty C released a visual EP called Lost Files. These were songs that didn't make it onto other projects.

In May 2020, Nasty C appeared in the Netflix African series Blood & Water. He played a character named Zhero. In June, he worked with American rapper T.I. on a protest song called "They Don't." The money from this song helped non-profit groups. He also released a collaborative mixtape called Zulu with DJ Whoo Kid.

After some delays, Nasty C released his album Zulu Man with Some Power on 28 August 2020. The album had 20 songs and featured artists like Lil Keed, Ari Lennox, Lil Gotit, T.I, Tellaman, and Rowlene. In November 2020, Nasty C won the Best Male Rap Act award at the African Muzik Magazine Awards. In June 2021, he released a new song called "Best I Ever Had."
