Raqhid Jevon Render (born March 16, 1998 – died May 13, 2022), known professionally as Lil Keed, was an American rapper and songwriter. He was signed to Young Thug's record label YSL Records and also to 300 Entertainment. His song "Nameless" became popular, reaching number 42 on the Billboard Hip Hop/R&B Songs Airplay chart.

Early Life

Raqhid Jevon Render was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 16, 1998. He was the fifth of seven children. Raqhid grew up in Forest Park before moving to Atlanta.

When a close friend named Rudy passed away in 2016, Raqhid started taking rapping seriously. He had six brothers and one sister. His younger brother is also a rapper, known as Lil Gotit.

Even though his parents separated early, both were involved in his childhood. As a teenager, Keed worked briefly at Subway and McDonald's. He lived close to a music studio and would record music almost every day. He first started making music with his younger brother, Semaja Render (Lil Gotit). They posted songs online and had some local hits in 2017. Lil Keed also had one daughter named Naychur.

Music Career

Starting Out: 2018

On July 23, 2018, Lil Keed released his song "Slatt Rock" with Paper Lovee. This song was part of his mixtape called Trapped on Cleveland 2. In October 2018, Keed and his brother Lil Gotit were featured on a song called Heavy Metal by Lil Uzi Vert.

On December 12, 2018, Lil Keed released another mixtape, Keed Talk to 'Em. This mixtape included his hit song "Nameless". It also featured other songs like "Balenciaga" with 21 Savage and "Red Hot" with Trippie Redd. Famous artists like Lil Durk, Lil Yachty, and Brandy also appeared on Keed Talk to 'Em.

Big Albums: 2019

In 2019, Lil Keed continued to release new music. On March 14, he put out the song "Move It" with Offset. He was also nominated for the XXL Freshman cover, which highlights new and rising hip hop artists.

On May 6, 2019, Lil Keed released "Proud Of Me", featuring Young Thug. This song, along with "Oh My God", was part of his first studio album, Long Live Mexico. Keed said he named the album after his friend Mexico, who had passed away earlier that year.

On June 13, 2019, Long Live Mexico was released. It featured many popular artists such as Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert, Roddy Ricch, YNW Melly, and Young Thug. This album was very successful, reaching number 26 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was his highest-charting project ever.

Later in 2019, Lil Keed appeared on songs with other artists like Future and Hoodrich Pablo Juan. He also released music videos for his songs "HBS" and "Snake".

New Music: 2020

On January 11, 2020, Keed announced his second studio album, Trapped On Cleveland 3. He released several songs from this album, including "No Dealings" and "Wavy". The remix of "Wavy" featured the famous rapper Travis Scott.

On June 12, 2020, Keed released "Fox 5" with Gunna. On August 7, 2020, his album Trapped On Cleveland 3 was released. It included collaborations with artists like 42 Dugg, Future, Gunna, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, Ty Dolla Sign, and Young Thug.

In August 2020, Lil Keed was chosen for XXL magazine's 2020 Freshman Class. This is a special group of new artists expected to become very successful. Later that year, he released a deluxe version of Trapped On Cleveland 3 with even more songs and guest artists like Quavo and Chris Brown.

Musical Style

Many people compared Lil Keed's music style to Young Thug. This is because both rappers grew up in the same area (Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta), and Keed was signed to Young Thug's record label. Critics said that Lil Keed used parts of Young Thug's flexible and changing rap style, especially his high-pitched voice, but he also added his own unique flow.

Influences

In an interview, Lil Keed shared that he was inspired by listening to music from his neighbor, Young Thug. He also mentioned being influenced by artists like Chingy, Peewee Longway, and Big Bank Black.

Live Performances

Lil Keed performed at many big music festivals. On May 11, 2019, he performed at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami, Florida. He shared the stage with famous artists like Young Thug, Chief Keef, and Lil Wayne.

He also performed at the Rolling Loud Festival in Oakland and New York. On September 14, 2019, Keed and Lil Gotit performed in Los Angeles. The famous rapper Drake was there and even joined Keed on stage during the show. Young Thug also made a brief appearance. Lil Keed also performed at the A3C Festival in Atlanta and the Mala Luna festival in San Antonio, Texas.

Death

Raqhid Jevon Render, known as Lil Keed, passed away on May 13, 2022. It was confirmed that he died of natural causes. His mother later clarified on social media that his death was from natural causes.
