Gauteng (pronounced khow-TENG) is a province in South Africa. It is the smallest province in terms of land area. However, it is also the most populated province in the country. Its capital city is Johannesburg, which is the largest city in South Africa. Gauteng is also home to Pretoria, which is South Africa's legislative capital.

Where is Gauteng Located?
Gauteng is located in the north-central part of South Africa. It shares borders with several other provinces. To its west, you will find the North West province. The Free State province is to its south. To the north, Gauteng borders Limpopo, and to the east, it borders Mpumalanga.
What is the Population of Gauteng?
Gauteng is the most populated province in South Africa. In 2011, about 12.2 million people lived there. By 2019, this number grew to over 15.1 million people. This makes Gauteng the province with the highest number of people and also the most densely populated.
Who Lives in Gauteng?
Gauteng is a very diverse province. Most of the people living there are of African descent, making up about 77.4% of the population. White people make up about 15.6%. There are also significant numbers of Coloured people (3.5%) and Indian or Asian people (2.9%).
What Languages are Spoken in Gauteng?
Because many different groups of people live in Gauteng, many languages are spoken. The most common language is Zulu, spoken by about 14.8% of the people. English is also widely spoken (13.3%).
