Refiloe Maele Phoolo (born 16 December 1990), known as Cassper Nyovest, is a famous South African rapper, songwriter, and businessman. He is also a record producer and an amateur boxer. Born and raised in Mahikeng, North West, he is one of South Africa's most successful artists.
In 2014, Cassper Nyovest started his own music company, Family Tree Records. He became very popular with his first album, Tsholofelo (2014). This album featured hit songs like "Gusheshe" and "Doc Shebeleza".
Cassper is also known for his "Fill Up" concerts. He sold out his first big show, Fill Up the Dome, in 2015 in Johannesburg. After this success, he held more "Fill Up" concerts every year. These included shows at Orlando Stadium (2016) and FNB Stadium (2017) in Johannesburg. He also performed at Moses Mabhida Stadium (2018) in Durban and Royal Bafokeng Stadium (2019) in North West.
His second album, Refiloe, came out on 31 October 2015. It was released at his Fill Up The Dome concert. This album featured collaborations with artists like The Game and DJ Drama. Later, he released his third album, Thuto (2018), and his fourth album, Sweet and Short (2019).

Early Life and Dreams

Refiloe Maele Phoolo was born on 16 December 1990. His parents are Muzuki and Letsebela Phoolo. He grew up in Mafikeng, which is part of North West. Cassper has a sister named Tsholofelo Phoolo. Sadly, their brother, Khotso Phoolo, passed away in 2003.
Cassper went to Sol Plaatjie Secondary School. He was a good athlete and played many sports. He started rapping when he was just 12 years old. In 2006, he did not pass his Grade 10 exams. This led him to move to his grandmother's house in Potchefstroom. In 2007, at 16, he decided to leave high school to focus on music.
In 2008, Cassper moved to Johannesburg. He wanted to become a rapper and music producer. He told his parents he wanted to follow his dreams. He felt it was better to chase his passion than to play it safe and regret it later.
Music Career Highlights
Early Days and First Album
In 2004, when he was only 13, Cassper formed a hip hop group called Childhood Gangsta. He later joined another group called Slow Motion. At 16, after leaving school, Cassper signed with Impact Sounds. This was a motswako record label. However, he left Impact Sounds in 2008 due to creative differences. He then became an independent artist.
Cassper moved back home and started his own record label. Before that, the late rapper Hip Hop Pantsula discovered him. Hip Hop Pantsula even featured Cassper on his song "Wamo Tseba Mtho".
In 2013, Cassper released his first single, "Gusheshe". It featured Okmalumkoolkat. In 2014, he started his record label, Family Tree Records. His second single, "Doc Shebeleza", came out the same year. It was named after the kwaito artist Doc Shebeleza. The song was very popular and received praise from artists like Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
On 18 July 2014, Cassper released his first album, Tsholofelo. He named it after his sister. The album was a huge success. It reached number one on the South African iTunes albums chart for two months.
Refiloe and "Fill Up" Concerts
Because Tsholofelo was so successful, Cassper released a special platinum edition. This version included new songs and collaborations. It featured artists like Casey Veggies, DJ Drama, Wizkid, and Anatii. The platinum edition was released on 17 April 2015. Only 10,000 copies were made.
In 2015, Cassper announced a big concert called Fill Up The Dome. He wanted to fill the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg. The Dome can hold up to 20,000 people. He also said his second album, Refiloe, would be released on the day of the concert.
On 14 August 2015, Cassper released "Mama I Made It" (#MIMI). This was the main song from his second album. It also promoted the Fill Up The Dome concert. Cassper successfully sold out all the tickets for his event. This was announced on his Twitter account on 25 October 2015. Everyone who bought a ticket received a free copy of the Refiloe album. This helped the album become certified gold on the same day. It later became platinum, selling over 40,000 copies.
Cassper then announced another "Fill Up" event. This one was at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. It took place on 29 October 2016. This concert was also a big success, with 40,000 people attending. In total, about 80,000 people attended both concerts.
Thuto and Sweet and Short
On 4 March 2017, Cassper released "Tito Mboweni". This was the first song from his third album, Thuto. The song was named after Tito Mboweni, a former South African Minister of Finance. The song became popular for its "Shaa Shaa" lyric, which sounds like money.
Thuto was released on 5 May 2017. It was certified gold by RiSA on its release day. It became platinum in the following weeks. Cassper then announced his third "Fill Up" event. It was held on 17 November 2017, at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. This stadium can hold 94,736 people. Cassper aimed to fill 75,000 seats, which was a big challenge. He got help from sponsors like Cîroc SA, SABC 1, and Budweiser. The event was a success, even though it didn't sell all tickets.
In 2018, Cassper released his fourth album, Sweet and Short. It was certified platinum on the day it came out. His next "Fill Up" concert was at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. It happened on 1 December 2018. He sold 68,000 tickets, which was a great result. The next day, Cassper performed at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100. This event featured stars like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. His song "Gets Getsa 2.0" won Best New Age Kwaito Song at the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards. On 15 December 2019, Cassper held his fifth "Fill Up" event. It was at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, his home province.
In 2020, Cassper returned to hip hop with a song called Good For That.
Recent Albums and Tours
On September 11, 2020, Cassper released his fifth album, Any Minute Now. This album featured many artists like Zola 7, Samthing Soweto, and Nadia Nakai.
At the 2020 South African Hip Hop Awards, he won three awards. These included "Song of the Year" and "Album of the Year".
On July 30, 2021, Cassper released his first Amapiano album, Sweet And Short 2.0. It had 10 songs and featured artists like Abidoza and Boohle. On September 4, 2021, he went to the United Kingdom for the AmaFest Tour. He promoted the Amapiano music style with other DJs.
Cassper also collaborated on the song "Umjolo" with Abidoza and Boohle. This song was released on September 30, 2021.
Solomon and African Throne Tour
Cassper announced his new album, Solomon, in May 2023. It was planned for release on July 28, 2023.
In May 2023, Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C announced the African Throne World Tour. This tour included 12 dates across different countries. It started on August 18 in Arusha, Tanzania. The tour ended on October 28 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The album Solomon was postponed. Instead, he released the single "018" featuring Maglera Doe Boy. This song came out on September 15, 2023. Solomon was then released on September 15, 2023, and quickly reached number one in South Africa.
Television Work
On September 9, 2021, Cassper became the host of The Braai show with Cass. This show airs on SABC 1.

Endorsements
Cassper Nyovest has worked with many companies. One of his biggest deals is with the vodka brand, Ciroc. This partnership started in 2017. He showed Cîroc bottles in his music video for "Tito Mboweni". Ciroc then announced their deal with him.
In 2015, Cassper partnered with MTN and AG Mobile. They launched a smartphone called AG Hashtag. Cassper helped design this phone. He has also worked with other brands. These include Shoprite, Samsung South Africa, Coca-Cola, KFC SA, Castle Lite, Nike SA, and Bitcasino.

In July 2015, Cassper Nyovest and actress Boity Thulo confirmed they were dating. This was in an issue of DRUM magazine. The magazine cover suggested they were engaged, but they later said this was not true. They broke up in December 2015.
