Riky Rick's Journey in Music
Early Life and First Steps in Music
Rikhado Muziwendlovu Chifaro Makhado was born on July 20, 1987. He grew up in a place called KwaMashu township, near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. His friends from childhood remember him as a very creative person. They said he was kind and had a talent for art, even when he was young.
Riky Rick's music journey really began when he was in a recording studio. He was with a musician named Bongani Fassie. Being with Fassie inspired Riky Rick to create his own songs. Soon after, he released his first song called "Barbershop," which featured Da L.E.S.
Big Hits and Albums
In 2014, Riky Rick released a song called "Nafukwa." This song won an MTV Africa Music Award for Video of the Year. This was a big achievement for him.
On April 3, 2015, Riky Rick released his first full album. It was called Family Values. Many music critics liked it a lot. Other artists like Cassper Nyovest and Okmalumkoolkat were featured on the album. Family Values sold more than 50,000 copies. Because of this, it was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). The album's success led to Riky Rick being nominated for eight South African Hip-Hop Awards that year. This was more than any other artist. Family Values is still his only studio album.
In April 2016, he released a song called "Sondela." This song featured Zano and was a special dedication to his wife, Bianca. Later that year, in October 2016, he released the popular song "Boss Zonke." This song reached number 3 on the SA Hip Hop Top Ten List.
One of the most popular songs from his album was "Amantombazane." This led to a new version called "Amantombazane (Remix)." Many other South African artists joined him on this remix. These included OkMalumkoolKat, Maggz, and Nadia Nakai. This remix was nominated for Remix of the Year at the 2015 South African Music Awards.
In June 2016, Riky Rick released "Sidlukotini." The name "Sidlukotini" means "We are eating cotton" in the Zulu language. This song showed Riky Rick's big love for fashion.
