Shell Lake's History

The city of Shell Lake got its name from the beautiful lake nearby. A post office, which helps send mail, has been open in Shell Lake since 1880. This shows that people have lived and worked in the area for a long time.

Emergency Services

Shell Lake has its own police department with full-time and part-time officers. The Chief of Police is David Wilson.

The Shell Lake Fire Department started in 1898. It protects the City of Shell Lake and a large area around it, including several nearby towns. The fire department also helps the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources with fighting wildfires. They are trained for cold water and ice rescues, car accidents, and other important services.
